The Ugliness of Ingratitude
December 5, 2010 No Comments
Coming out of an experience in which my efforts and the opening of my home and life to a relative were completely unappreciated and disrespected, has made me renew my commitment to staying as far away from an “ungrateful” spirit in my own life as possible.
It’s hurtful when you are made out to be the bad person in a situation, are lied on and the “help” you thought you were giving out of love and concern for someone is basically spit on and rejected.
Well, as with any trial in life, it’s best to look for your own lessons and what life, the Supreme and your inner guide had in mind to better and elevate you to the next level as a result of the experience. Once you know the personal sting and ugliness of ingratitude as shown to you, you don’t want to be found exhibiting the same to anyone else or in your life at all.
Reminds of verses found in books of scripture:
For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful [unthankful]. They will consider nothing sacred. — (2 Timothy 3:2, New Living Translation, Bible)
In the Qur’an, there are several mentions of people being “surely” ungrateful (Chapter 14:34), how Allah/God does not love the ungrateful (2:276), and how hell is where the ungrateful will end up (50:24), but there is also this:
If you are ungrateful, then surely Allah is above need of you. And He likes not ungratefulness in His servants. And if you are grateful, He likes it for you. And no bearer of a burden will bear another’s burden. Then to your Lord is your return, then will He inform you of what you did. Surely He is Knower of what is in the breasts. — (Chapter 39:7)
Grateful: appreciative of benefits received; expressing gratitude
Gratitude: state of being thankful; thankfulness
In gratitude and thanks for relief, healing, comfort and “ease after difficulty”,
