Haiti, Still on the Road to Recovery

Recently, Richard Muhammad, Editor of The Final Call Newspaper, visited Denver, Colorado to kickoff a series of public forums to discuss and share information about Haiti, a country he first visited in 1985. His last trip took place in October 2010 and the journalist took several photos of the conditions on the ground in the Caribbean country that suffered extreme devastation from an earthquake in January.
Adeeba Folami reported on the Denver event for the Denver Weekly News and also interviewed Brother Richard, an extremely busy editor/journalist, for additional comments. Access the DWN article through the following links, (Acrobat Reader is required to view the files):

The Haiti Support Project, with support from The Final Call, is planning a Pilgramage of Hope Cruise to Haiti in January 2012, to take more than 2000 travelers in a show of support for the troubled country that is the only one in history to have been forced to pay reparations (to France) for overthrowing the shackles of bondage placed on them from a colonial power.
Ever since that defeat that “shook the western world,” a campaign has been in place to make sure the “first Black republic” remained an object of worldwide scorn and disdain. Partially so that other melanated people around the globe would largely disregard the Haitian people, their fighting spirit and determination to be free. The powers that be wouldn’t want other oppressed folks to get the notion of fighting (and killing) for their freedom, now would they?
Is it any wonder that an oft repeated theme in Haiti is:
“Our Innate Instinct is to be Free”
