The Black House was on scene for the State of the Black World Conference (SOBWC) which was held Nov. 19-23 in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Dr Ron Daniels, President of the Institute of the Black World 21st Century was the convener of the convention under the theme:  “Return to the Source:  Restoring Family, Rebuilding Community, Renewing the Struggle.” The event was billed as the first major gathering of the African Diaspora after the historic election of Barack Obama as President of the United States.  “What’s Next?” was the question of the conference which was attended by esteemed elders, youth leaders, scholars, hip hop heads, Pan African policy experts, community leaders and activists.

In coming days, look for interviews, stories, photos and overview articles which will give the BH take on things, including scenes and stories from the Lower 9th Ward, the area most devastated by flooding from Hurricane Katrina.

peace ari~ i never sought to find out or ask the actual attendance figure but i know from talking with ron daniels that attendance was much lower than expected. the main meeting hall (at the convention center) was set up with 800 chairs and only half of them were full for the town hall meeting and also for min. farrakhan’s main address that sunday. so i would say 250 is a bit low for those 2 meetings but may be accurate for the number of people who officially registered for the conference.

what number is SOBWC officially giving? i hadn’t seen any figures they’ve released.
