I’ve noticed the tiny, almost overlooked male reactions: a curled lip that stretches into a toothy grin or the puffed-up chests that occur as men watch Mr. Obama speak. I saw the image of an African-American man crying at an Obama event. When have you ever seen the public spectacle of a black man crying?

BEWARE-If you use debit/credit cards for gasoline
Posted by BHblog in : General , add a comment
There are reports from some drivers that when they use their debit or credit card to purchase gas (even if only a few dollars), a $100+ hold is put on their bank accounts which is not released until a week later. This can cause bounced checks or non-sufficient funds charges which few can afford in today’s economic climate. Not all service stations or oil companies require this “deposit” for debit/credit purchases so it is best to check with your bank or your chosen fuel company’s corporate offices.

Obama Vows to Keep Talking About Fatherlessness (Washington Post)
(Reader’s comment): I am a black man and I have heard enough from Mr. Obama who wasn’t raised in the ghetto/slums of the inner city, let alone America for any extended length of time. OK, so there are problems which plague the black community and their family units. It seems evident that pointing his finger in the face of [black] America is a HUGE POLITICAL STRATEGY to win the confidence of white voters at all socio-economic levels whether they are on the left, the right, or in the middle. We all know that criticism of black people really goes over BIG with other racial and ethnic groups.
IT WOULD BE HELPFUL IF OBAMA CAN PRAISE THE GOOG THINGS THAT MANY BLACK PEOPLE ARE STRIVING TO ACCOMPLISH AND LAY OFF TTHE NEGATIVES!!
Like he said, “lay off my wife!”
I say to OBAMA, “It’s time to LAY OFF [BLACK] PEOPLE”.

Are Blacks the Chosen People of God?
Posted by BHblog in : Separation , add a comment
Many around the world have been swayed by the Christian teaching that the Jews, or Israelites, are the “chosen people” of God and because of this, some hold the Jewish people – those of European descent – in a higher regard than other groups of people. But what if the world has been deceived by a diversionary tactic and teaching which was intended to keep the world’s population blinded as to who the true chosen people are?
Obadiyah Ysrayl (OY), a regent of the Israelite Heritage organization, and a long-time Hebrew Israelite, recently traveled from Chicago, Illinois to speak in Denver, Colorado about the hidden history and how Blacks in America are the people who fulfill many Biblical prophecies which have long been applied to European Jewish history. He was interviewed by The Black House News’ (BHN) Adeeba Folami prior to his June lecture at a local cultural center.
__________________
(BHN) - What are some of the things you’re going to speak about in your message today?
(OY) - What I deal with is the hidden history between the Bible and African American history. There is a connection between the ancient Biblical Israelites and the so-called Black people of the Americas, in fact, this relationship was always known by our slave masters - this is one of the reasons they put us through what’s called the seasoning process, to remove knowledge of self. They removed our language, history – everything - and so we’re gonna show from the Bible, from history and archeology, that not only African Americans, but Jamaicans, Haitians, all of us that were brought into the Western Hemisphere with the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, we are Israelites.
I’m going to show first the physical appearance and then we’ll show the curses and punishments that the Most High put upon His children, the children of Israel, in fact, it’s our entire history in the Western Hemisphere from slavery. The Bible speaks about we’re gonna be brought into slavery in ships and be sold to our enemies as male and female slaves. It talks about us having a prison population and said, ‘you’re gonna be hid in prison houses.’ It talks about we’re gonna be a disease stricken people, which we are; we lead in 8 of the top 10 cancers; sickle cell anemia and so many of these diseases on us, they’re starting to call them Black diseases; so we’re gonna go through that and show why all these things have happened.
We’re not only gonna say this and that is happening to us but [we will give] the cause and the reason. It’s because we left the Most High. He chose us to be his priests, his teachers to the world and we turned our back and said we don’t want to teach the world but we want to be like the world. We were integrating long ago. We tried integration. Integration didn’t work in the 60s and it didn’t work 2000 – 3000 years ago because the Most High said, ‘I called you to be a separate people, to be different from these people because you got to be an example to them.’ That’s what our lecture will deal with today.
(BHN) - You spoke of separation and the Nation of Islam also advocates separation. How are you and the NOI on the same page on that subject?
(OY) - I’m familiar with the Nation of Islam teachings, in fact, before I came into this, I was searching and I came across some of the teachings. Yes, separation is Biblical for our people because the Most High is a separatist Himself. He said, ‘I called you,’ and I’m gonna show the scriptures, Ex. 19:5-6, He said, ‘I called you to be a people unto Me. I don’t want you to be like that.’ Right now, integration has killed our people and we never thought about this; we’re fighting for the right to integrate with a wicked people. That means if they’re wicked and we’re gonna integrate with them, we’re gonna be wicked [also.]
The NOI has that right: total separation, we’re talking about a total, total, total separation. I mean, eventually we’re gonna have to separate from this land because this land will be destroyed by the Most High. So we’re similar on that understanding that separation, really, for the survival of our people, separation has to happen. We got to give these people back everything - their names, their ways, their customs. It was never meant for us and it’s killing us.
(BHN) - Thank you.

Could Obama Be Worse Than McCain? (Information Clearing House)
….Many of us who have criticized Obama are being dismissed as cynics, but that’s nonsense. The truth is that the Obama supporters have projected their own values onto their candidate and are trying to make him out to be something that he is not. ….. The system has to be rebuilt from the bottom-up not the top-down. It’ll take a revolution in thinking and lots of hard work. There’s no quick fix. Freedom isn’t free anymore; deal with it. Voting for Obama and keeping one’s fingers crossed, is not a sign of hope. It’s a sign of self-delusion…..

Congratulations to Cynthia McKinney July 15, 2008
Posted by BHblog in : Politics , add a comment
Although most media attention this political season has gone to the historic candidacy of Sen. Barack Obama and his accomplishments which have far exceeded all other Blacks who have run for president, there is yet another Black person making history this year: Cynthia McKinney who has secured the Green Party nomination for president, making her the first Black candidate to accomplish this feat. The Green Party is considered the third largest political party in America which makes McKinney’s achievement that much more noteworthy.
Additionally, she has selected hip hop activist Rosa Clemente, an Afro/Latina sister, as her vice presidential choice, a move which made headlines recently and ensures an increased level of support from many who are influenced by rap music today.
Some speculate that sexism may be part of the reason their historic run has not received more media attention or that many Blacks - who are supporting Obama - only view McKinney as a spoiler which prevents them from recognizing or acknowledging her place in this year’s presidential race.
Jesse Jackson, who spoke at a Denver leadership session over the weekend, was asked what his thoughts were on McKinney’s candidacy and her call for Blacks to begin considering options outside of the two major political parties. He replied that he had not paid much attention to her campaign but encouraged voters to consider all options and then make an intelligent choice in November. “I think I know what that choice will be,” he said and then proceeded into a very strong pro-Obama endorsement without any mention or acknowledgement that McKinney’s campaign is also a historic one, not only for Blacks but for women as well.
Regardless, McKinney continues to run on and is picking up praise for her success from various places including the author of “McKinney: 1st Black Woman Nominee for POTUS“, an OpEd News editorial.

Jesse Jackson on Barack Obama July 10, 2008
Posted by BHblog in : Politics , add a comment
Rev. Jesse Jackson (JJ), a long time civil rights activist and founder of the Rainbow Push Coalition is currently in the heart of a controversy over remarks he made about Sen. Barack Obama and his “talking down” to Blacks in recent addresses. During a break on a recent Sunday TV news program, Jackson whispered comments to another guest, apparently unaware that his microphone was still on. Wednesday, 07/09/08, his remarks about wanting to cut Obama’s “nuts” off were making media rounds nationwide which forced the minister to become the latest leader to have to issue a public apology for careless words.
Interestingly, only one day prior, he spoke by phone from Chicago with The Black House News’ (BHN) Adeeba Folami about his plans to come to Denver that weekend for a series of speaking engagements. His hosts were the Colorado Black Chamber of Commerce and the Denver Ministerial Alliance. The following is a transcript of that interview in which he touched on various Obama-related topics, including the rising number of complaints coming forth from Blacks concerned over the candidate’s apparent need to ‘diss’ them in order to gain White votes.
(BHN) - What is bringing you to Denver this weekend?
(JJ) - Part of my focus is 2 churches on Sunday and the leadership [session] on Saturday. [Former Denver Mayor] Wellington Webb is my host and the ministers and in some sense we’re fulfilling the dream in this transformative, redemptive moment for America. It should encourage us in the work that George Brown did in Denver, the ground breaking work of Wellington Webb and [former Mayor Federico] Pena in Denver. We’ve continued to struggle to fulfill the dream of equal opportunity for all Americans and to learn to live together in love of each other, not fear of each other.
Think about August 28, 1955, Emmet Till was lynched. A great moment of tragedy and pain, really state sponsored terrorism. Aug. 28, 1963, Dr. [Martin Luther] King projected a dream for America beyond apartheid. Aug. 2008, Barack [Obama] speaks in Denver, so really from the sweltering heat of a grave in Mississippi, the Lincoln Monument in Washington, to Denver is Aug. 28, 1955; Aug, 28, 1963; Aug. 28, 2008. You see the steady hand of our struggle and God moving in history.
While this is a great victory for Barack and his wife Michelle, it’s an even greater victory for the civil rights movement that made it possible with our constant struggling against all odds, that kept hammering away, changing along, modifying the law, making demands. Now America is being redeemed and transformed and the nameless, faceless, marchers and martyrs who gave so much, made it all possible. I wish George Brown would be in Denver in August because his work sure made a new Denver possible.
(BHN) - Do you think the Democratic Party has been irreparably damaged because of the way the campaign went between Clinton and Obama?
(JJ) - No. I think those wounds will be healed. Our interests are so substantial, the stakes are so high … it was a tight contest but they had one eye on competition and one eye on reconciliation and now the focus is reconciliation. What is at stake is the Supreme Court, the U.S. Congress, the House, the Senate; the stakes are very high.
(BHN) - Having walked with Martin Luther King, what do you think his thoughts, his emotions would be regarding Obama’s success?
(JJ) - He would find joy in the fulfillment of the dream but he would also point out unfinished business because while politically we see advancement, economically we see the middle class sinking; the working poor people expanding; our jobs and investments leaving; drugs and guns coming in; murdering on the rise; first class jails and second class schools – he would be very concerned about the unfinished business.
(BHN) - Your reply to some feeling Barack Obama has backslapped the Black community a number of times in order to gain White votes; (specifically concerning the Rev. Wright issue, the rejecting and denouncing of Min. Louis Farrakhan, and Obama’s Father’s Day address.) How much of the okey doke do you feel the Black community should take?
(JJ) - I think that any leader has to be sensitive to the words he chooses and make sure all these messages are broadly applied and not for Black men only, White men only but all men. But he’s handled it well.
(BHN) - Thank you.

Is the American ‘National Anthem’ important to you? July 6, 2008
Posted by BHblog in : General , 2 comments
Last week, Rene Marie, a Denver singer caused what erupted into a national controversy when she replaced the words of the American national anthem with the lyrics to “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing,” a song often referred to as the Black national anthem. Many were outraged that the 58 year old would do such a thing at an official city function: the mayor’s state of the city address; and would do so even though she was specifically asked to sing the standard national anthem.
The controversy led some media outlets to hit the streets to find out if people today were even aware of which song is the ‘national anthem’ and if they know the correct lyrics to that song. The results were surprising and show that not everyone in America is as familiar with or defensive about the national anthem, and a growing number do not even know what that anthem is. Do you?
